What is a corn snake "morph"? and what are the different corn snake "morphs"

What are corn snake genes? and how do they affect "morphs"

Genes
We can't explain it well, so we use this web-sites
VMS herp Learning Center
These guys do a GREAT job of explaining this type of stuff and also have given us some of our beautiful
bloodreds.

"Normal Morphs" - these are snakes found in the wild originally
Okeetee
Common or Classic or "normals"
Miami

Some Genes affect color and some affect Patterns on the snake

Color morphs
Single genes that affect colors
First we have genes that affect the dark colors leaving the reds and oranges alone
Amelanistic - no blacks or brown
Hypomelanistic - a little bit of black or brown

Then we have the ones that affect the reds and oranges
Anerythristic type A - no red or orange - usually dark grey or black with white
Charcoal = Anery type B - no red or orange or yellow - so they have grey to black with white
Caramel = Anery type C - The color turns brownish greenish sometimes... pretty cool

Then there are other colors as well
Lavender - looks grey to light purple

There are some other single gene colors and new ones are found every once in a while, but these are
some of the most common ones.

One of the "weird" genes is called "bloodred"  This is a gene that affects the color AND the pattern
As you can imagine from the name, a bloodred is red in color.  As a baby, there are other colors (white
and grey in the head) but as the snake gets older the colors all blend together (diffuse) and the snake
becomes almost solid red.
Baby Bloodred                    Yearling Bloodred                Adult Bloodred

It becomes even neater when we "mix up" genes
Double gene colors
Blizzard This is a combination of Amelanistic and Charcoal.
Ghost
Snow - so if I took an anery A (no red or orange) and put it with an amel (no blacks or dark
browns) what do I have left?  I just took out all of the common cornsnakes normal colors
except for the white... you guessed it!  I have a white snake with pretty patterns...
Opal
Butter
Amber
Phantom
Pewter

Triple Gene Colors - There are some
Coral Snow - this is a Hypomelanistic snow.  Which means it is hypo amel and anery.

Pattern morphs
Stripe
Motley
Zig Zag
Aztec
Bloodred

Making babies from these "morphs" to make some of the stuff "stronger"
Types:
Hurricane Motley
Abbott's Okeetee
Sunglow Motley - bred to get rid of the "white"

How they work
I take some babies...

A GREAT program we found to figure out which moms and dads will make which kinds of babies is
Micks
Cornsnake Predictor.  Click on it to get it!  IT'S FREE!  But ask mom and dad first.

Please note, this page is
still under construction,
if you would like to help
us (adding pictures of
morphs we don't have or
suggestions) we would
LOVE it!
